Man Charged with Murder in Winston-Salem Fatal Shooting | News
A Winston-Salem man was charged with first-degree murder after a man was found shot to death in a parking lot early Wednesday morning.
Shanta Shamell Pitts, 34, of Robbins Brook Drive, was arrested around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Pitts was arrested in connection with the death of Derrick Hasten Russell, 47, of Winston-Salem. He was found dead around 1:40 a.m. at the Sugar Creek Apartments off Traceview Drive, Winston-Salem Police said.
The two men were involved in an ongoing dispute related to Pitts' relationship with Russell's estranged wife, police said.
Pitt was placed in the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond.
This is the 15th homicide for the city in 2011 as compared to nine by this time in 2010.
